      基 礎固態電子元件的突破與創新無疑地是整個電子產業的推手,今天,主宰過去四十年來龐大半導體產業發展的摩爾定律,正遭遇到相當嚴峻的考驗,因此在學校的前 瞻研究上,我們必須反覆的思考這個嚴肅的課題:「未來的四十年,固態電子的發展將何去何從?」。在奈米科學與技術實驗室 (NanoST Lab),我們相信成功的結合現今成熟的Silicon技術與新興的奈米科學與技術的發展是其中的最大關鍵,兩者的結合可以提供在當前技術上無法實現的元 件效能與功能,同時保有半導體工藝上高度積體化的特性。

    While the remarkable run of the Moore’s Law, which has governed the multi-billion semiconductor industry in the past four decades, is in jeopardy, we have to ask ourselves what is the future for the solid-state devices in the next four decades. In NanoST Lab, we believe successfully bridging the maturity of silicon technology and the exciting opportunities offered by the emerging nanoscale science and technology is the key. It provides the most promising, if not the only, way to boost the performance and enhance the functionality of nanoscale devices while preserving the high integration density of the present silicon technology.
